Back on Sept. 21, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball team took a shocking defeat at home to Central Square.
Remembering this, and wanting some payback, the Northstars went to the Red Hawks’ home gymnasium — and met the exact same fate in the form of a five-game defeat, though the details were a bit different.
Twice, CNS had the lead, after taking the first game 25-18 and the third game 25-22, with Central Square claiming the second game 25-20 in between.
But the Red Hawks took over in the fourth game, getting even again at 25-13 and also winning the fifth game 25-14 to close out the match.
In defeat, Eric Munoz led with 14 kills, while Tyler A. Smith had 13 kills. C.J. Patzer and Taylor Michael each had four kills, with Patzer adding five blocks. Jim Coleman had 40 assists, an average of eight assists per game. Central Square featured Corey Allen getting 41 assists as three Red Hawks players — Bart Paura, Mike Brandt and Sheldon Paura — each got 12 kills.
Before going to Central Square, the Northstars first had to handle Fayetteville-Manlius last Tuesday night — which it did, sweeping the Hornets 25-17, 25-18, 25-9.
Everywhere, Coleman turned with his 18 assists, someone was putting it away. Munoz and Smith each had seven kills, while Smith also earned four blocks. Patzer added five kills and three blocks.
