Though it contained a lot of excitement, the Liverpool boys volleyball team would gladly have traded two interesting matches for one victory.
As it was, the Warriors lost on both occasions, starting with last Tuesday’s four-game decision against Fayetteville-Manlius.
Here, Liverpool lost the first two games 25-21 and 25-14, but then won the third game 25-23 and nearly forced the match to the wire before falling in the fourth game by that same 25-23 margin.
James Henty had 40 assists, or an average of 10 assists per game. Aaron Carroll-Marsh had 23 kills, five blocks and four aces, while Brendan Taylor earned 10 kills. John Foley (six kills) and Ben Peet (five kills) also were active on the front line, as Peet added three aces and two blocks.
Just as frustrating was Wednesday’s five-game defeat to Baldwinsville, where Liverpool lost the first two games 25-19 and 25-16, took the next two games 25-16 and 25-22, but saw the Bees take over in the fifth game to win it 25-14.
Despite the loss, Carroll-Marsh still had 26 kills, getting help from Foley (10 kills), Taylor (eight kills) and Peet (five kills) as Ryan Krahmer added four kills and Henty got 42 assists. B’ville featured Pete Cuppernull, who had 25 assists, 11 aces and nine kills, as Ryan Shelton (14 assists), Kyle Lattanzio (11 kills) and Zach Racha (10 kills) also stood out.
While all this was going on, Cicero-North Syracuse was routing Fowler 25-11, 25-7, 25-17. Jim Coleman, with 30 assists, four kills and three aces, had a fine showing as Tyler A. Smith got 13 kills, four aces and two blocks. Eric Munoz had six kills, with Collin Crooks adding five kills and C.J. Patzer four kills. Brendan Ryan, Patrick Miles and Mike Taylor each got three kills.
