For the Christian Brothers Academy boys soccer team, Wednesday night’s trip to Chittenango proved to be an exciting one, as the Brothers had to work all the way to the end to beat the Bears 4-2.
Even with a weather delay that pushed the starting time back, CBA was ready at the start, initiating a long series of attacks against Chittenango’s defense.
What proved effective, though, was hard shots from outside the 18-yard box. Sars Bowman connected on two of them in the game’s first 19 minutes, each of them rockets that Chittenango goalie Zach Boswell had no chance of stopping.
Following Bowman’s second goal, Luca Bottoni hit from the right side to cut the margin to 2-1, only to have Emmanuel Collins answer a minute later with his own hard shot on the run. All told, the game had three goals in a span of three minutes.
CBA carried that two-goal margin into the second half, only to see it shrink to 3-2 when Josh Kimber’s low shot in the 52nd minute tucked through traffic inside the left post.
But the Bears never could get a decent, point-blank chance to pull event, and Bowman returned to finish off a hat trick with a shot from the left side that found the net with 4:25 left.
Meanwhile, the CBA girls team was at Fulton, toying with the Red Raiders in a 6-0 romp that featured 24 shots and three scoring plays in each half.
Caitlin McConnell, with two goals, led the way, while Alexis Koval had a goal and two assists. Alyssa Pitonzo, Elisabeth Webber and Meghan Hannan also converted.
