The Elbridge Town Board was expected to pass a resolution Wednesday night that would establish a Coordinated Assessment Program with the town of Camillus.
The CAP would contract the town of Elbridge to pay Camillus for assessor’s services for a 10-year period and make state incentives available to both towns.
Salary and payroll for the present assessor system in Elbridge would cost the town just over $20,000 in 2010, Bush said. Under the CAP contract, Elbridge would pay Camillus $20,000. The town would also be eligible for annual revaluations, for which the state would pay the town an additional $5 per parcel, about $12,000 a year.
The town of Camillus would be eligible for a one-time grant of about $7,000 for entering into a CAP contract for the first time.
Bush said because assessors serve six-year terms statewide, both assessors for both towns had three years left of their terms. Instead, the town of Elbridge planned to replace longtime assessor Larry Fitts with Camillus assessor Celeste Karakas.
The switch would provide Elbridge residents with having an assessor in the Elbridge office at least one full day each week, and access to the assessor remaining days at the Camillus office.
The Camillus Town Board passed the resolution last week during their regular meeting.
Bush said the towns of Elbridge and Marcellus participated in a CAP in the mid-1990s, but did not renew the program contract when it expired.
