In recent years, the Christian Brothers Academy girls swim team has proven close to unbeatable against Section III opposition — in fact, going 63-1 in coach Bill Houser’s tenure. Now, with a set of talent as impressive as any put forward, the Brothers (who have home meets at LeMoyne College) began its season Thursday night at Cazenovia, winning every race as it conquered the Lakers 103-75. Maggie Fletcher won twice at the Cazenovia College pool, needing 56.43 seconds to take the 100 freestyle and 1:05.94 to prevail in the 100 backstroke. Ruthie Speidel also won twice, taking the 200 individual medley (2:19.93) and 500 freestyle (5:19.60). Other individual titles went to Zoe McCauley (200 freestyle, 2:07.91), Juliette Wetzel (50 freestyle, 26.09 seconds), Summer Schmitt (100 butterfly, 1:02.01) and Kathryn Coughlin, who won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.51. CBA also swept the 200 medley (1:54.13), 200 freestyle (1:44.91) and 400 freestyle (3:57.92) relays as Schmitt, Coughlin, Fletcher, Wetzel, Coughlin, Destiny Cerlanek and Aubrey Letourneau all took part. As this was going on, Jamesville-DeWitt was also winning its opening meet of the 2009 season, toppling the Mexico Tigers 104-79. Jillian Rippon announced her presence for the Red Rams with two wins, taking the 200 freestyle (2:10.78) before prevailing in the 100 buttterfly in a clocking of 1:06.28. Cara Gannon earned 188.30 points on the diving board, as Molly Hair beat the field in the 100 backstroke (1:07.01) and Morgan Gunther followed by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.92. Gunther and Hair helped Bridget O’Grady and Kalie Coyne by prevailing in the 200 medley relay (2:05.06), with Coyne, Kathryn Comanici, Samantha Rippon and Emma Pusey working to first place in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:52.55.
