The restoration of the Camillus Erie Canal aqueduct is proceeding well ahead of schedule, and workers hope to have the structure sealed and holding water by the end of July.
As of last week, the bulk of the rebuilding had been completed. This week, weather permitting, sealant and a layer of clay will be added to make the aqueduct watertight, then crews can begin removing the earth dams and allow water to flow back into the aqueduct.
The project was supposed to be wrapped up by the end of October, but despite the wet weather the restoration is nearly complete. Visit the aqueduct site off Thompson Road in Camillus within the next two weeks to see the project pre-completion, and return again in late summer to see how it functions.
