Two Manlius doctors will challenge themselves at golf on Father’s Day weekend as they help the needy — a “hole in one” for the Rescue Mission.
Bob Quinn, a veterinarian, and Dennis Reedy, a gastroenterologist, are looking to play as many holes as possible in one day — and raise as much money as possible — as part of their “Father’s Day Golf Challenge: 100-Plus Holes for the Homeless” on Friday, June 19 at Cazenovia Country Club.
Reedy explained that it started in 2006 as simply a challenge among golfing buddies.
“We did it for fun for a few years and we said, ‘Why don’t we do it for a purpose?’ We figured the Rescue Mission is a local charity that needs help,” he said.
At the first Father’s Day Golf Challenge last year, the two doctors played 108 holes in one day and raised $1,800 for the Rescue Mission. On June 19, they hope to play 120 holes and raise $5,000 for the Rescue Mission, which helps the homeless, hungry and hurting.
The two doctors are seeking pledges from their fellow Cazenovia Country Club members as well as patients, family, friends and others looking to support the Rescue Mission. Those who want to help may give at the Rescue Mission’s secure website, rmsyr.org, or mail checks to the Rescue Mission, PO Box 11122, Syracuse, NY 13218-9903.
