Even without its home field, the Skaneateles boys lacrosse team found its way forward in the Section III Class C playoffs. Trying to defend its sectional title, the no. 2 seed Lakers were forced to move Saturday’s quarterfinal to Solvay’s Earl Hadley Stadium because of the installment of a new artificial turf field in Skaneateles that began the moment the regular season ended. So it was only fitting that the Lakers faced more adversity in the quarterfinal game against no. 7 seed Christian Brothers Academy before coming back to beat the Brothers 11-7. Much like their first meeting April 23 (where Skaneateles needed overtime to win), the Lakers had early trouble with the Brothers, falling behind 3-0 in a lackluster first quarter. Gradually, the Lakers got moving, and closed within 5-4 by halftime. And all through the second half, Skaneateles used its depth and physical play to wear down the Brothers, limiting CBA to a mere two goals as it raced ahead. Tom Schoener scored four times to lead the comeback. Kevin Castle had two goals and one assist, while Kyle Baier had a goal and three assists. Kevin Rice and Kelly Donigan each had one goal and one assist as Patrick Emmer and Dylan Ross also converted. Skaneateles will meet Cazenovia in Tuesday’s semifinal round at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium, with the winner to return to CNS Friday at 3:30 to play LaFayette or Westhill for the Class C championship.
