When the Morrisville-Eaton boys track and field team hosted its part of the Class C-2 championships on Saturday, it finished in fourth place.
Overall, the Warriors gained 68.5 points, as a close battle developed at the top, West Canada Valley (127 points) holding off Beaver River (120 points) and Weedsport (113.5 points).
Alex Marris earned 10 of those points by himself as he won the pentathlon. Marris finished with 2,072 points, beating WCV’s Xavier Maxwell by 149 points as he took the top spot in four of the five events.
Jarred Kent gained his own title in the 100-meter dash, holding off WCV’s Clay Arodin, 11.58 seconds to 11.61. He also helped Joey VanDee, Keenon LeBlanc and Ryan Schruise win the 4×100 relay in 45.88 seconds, a full second ahead of Dolgeville.
In the high jump, Kent was third and Ben Thomas second, each of them clearing 5 feet 6 inches, and Kent was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.92 seconds.
Austin Hirsch ran alone among C-2 runners and took the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:44.8. LeBlanc earned second in the triple jump, going 41 feet 2 inches, and was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 54.31 seconds. Dustin Davis tied for sixth in the pole vault.
Two days earlier, the M-E girls team also earned fourth place in its part of the Class C-2 championships at Westmoreland High School. The Warriors had 59 points as Beaver River (181 points) easily took the crown.
Emily Sherwood tore her way to second place in the 100-meter dash in 13.7 seconds, then added a second in the 200-meter dash (27.7 seconds) as Hannah Edinger needed 1:04.4 to finish third in the 400-meter dash.
Amber Smalley went 14 feet 5 1/2 inches for second place in the high jump and also finished third (31 feet 4 3/4 inches) in the triple jump. Kim Horton cleared 4 feet 8 inches for third place in the high jump as Ashley Myers was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet.
Kayla Marris ran to sixth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (9:18.5) as Horton got to sixth in the 100-meter high hurdles. M-E was fourth in both the 4×100 (54.1 seconds) and 4×400 (4:30.5) relays.
