the West Genesee boys track and field team made some big noise at Thursday’s CNY Counties League National division championships, earning 109.5 points. Baldwinsville (150.5 points) beat Cicero-North Syracuse (145 points) for the top spot.
In its best individual event, WG went 1-2 in the 400-meter hurdles, as Jon Richardson won in 58.18 seconds, edging out teammate Matt Ulrich, who was second in 58.27 seconds. Richardson also got second in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.73 seconds), as Matt Ulrich finished third in 15.85 seconds.
Jeremy Jones soared to a victory in the long jump, going 21 feet 10 3/4 inches, while also taking second in the triple jump with 42 feet 3 1/2 inches. He also had a third in the 100-meter dash in 11.40 seconds.
Jake Lafaver added a victory in the 400-meter dash in 50.21 seconds, beating CNS’s Mike Fiume by 0.70 seconds. Ben Zachariah earned fourth in the shot put with a toss of 43 feet 4 1/2 inches.
Richardson, Steve Houghmaster, Jake Lafaver and Zack Lafaver ran to third in the 4×400 relay in 3:30.82. On his own, Houghmaster got third in the 800-meter run in 2:01.98 and also finished third (4:32.06) in the mile.
Zac Karpinski ran to third in the 200-meter dash in 22.97 seconds and fifth in the 100. Jones, Karpinski, Greg Kurtz and Christos Dimkos had a fourth-place time of 44.64 seconds in the 4×100 relay. Tom Hopkins, Andrew Incaudo, Ron Ta and Ethan Wojcik took fourth in the 4×800 relay in 8:41.59.
