Baldwinsivlle’s boys track and field team did not care much about what had taken place in the regular season, as long as the post-season turned out well.
With that as a premise, the Bees went to Thursday’s CNY Counties League National division championship meet at Bragman Stadium and gained revenge for a May 6 defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse, the meet’s hosts.
When it all got added up, B’ville had 150.5 points, just ahead of CNS, who was second with 145 points. West Genesee finished third with 109.5 points.
The Bees won six different events, including a 1-2-3 sweep in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where Shaun Thompson won in a time of 10:00.84. Andres Romeu took second place (10:43.01) and Joel Moss (10:49.31) finished third.
Sean Bernstein won a tight 200-meter dash, edging Utica Proctor’s Will Hawkins, 22.78 seconds to 22.81. He also was second in the 100-meter dash (11.26 seconds) and cleared 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump for second place.
Brian Kane ruled in the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet 5 inches, and he added a fifth (40 feet 1 inch) in the triple jump. In the 3,200-meter run, Adam Pacheck took charge, winning in a time of 9:52.10 as Thompson (9:56.39) claimed second place.
Tim Chambers joined in the fun as he won a dramatic 800-meter duel with CNS’s Jared Walther. Chambers hit the line in 2:01.54, one-hundredth of a second ahead of Walther (2:01.55) as they hit the wire together.
Nathan McCabe was sixth in the 800, as he was also fourth in the mile (4:32.60), with Pacheck in fifth place. In the 4×800 relay, Pacheck, Tim Chambers, Sam Kurey and Chris Wicks finished second in 8:23.86 as Liverpool (8:17.42) prevailed. B’ville also took fourth in the 4×400.
B’ville had a 1-2 finish in the discus, where Matt Getman prevailed with a throw of 132 feet 7 inches and Raeshaun Jones (127 feet 2 inches) took second place. Jon Hingre took second in the pentathlon with 2,042 points.
Kyle Rogers got third in the long jump, going 20 feet 5 3/4 inches, and was fifth in the 400-meter dash (52.74 seconds), just ahead of teammate Jeff Pond. Kyle McCaleb and Andrew Hoover were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 110 high hurdles, as McCaleb also earned fifth place (1:01.19) in the 400 hurdles.
A day earlier, the Bees beat Utica Proctor 82-59 to close out its regular-season slate, a meet where Bernstein ran the 100 in 10.8 seconds and the 200 in 22.1 seconds.
In a sweep of the distance events, Wicks took the 800 (2:05.1), McCabe won the mile (4:32.0) and Thompson took the 3,200 in 9:49.2.
Thompson, Wicks, Kurey and Pacheck took the 4×800 relay in 8:51.2, with Wicks and Kurey helping Rogers and Pond win the 4×400 in 3:40.6. Rogers, on his own, won the 400-meter dash (52.7 seconds).
Kane cleared 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump, while Getman threw the discus 138 feet 10 inches. Alan Gribble cleared 8 feet 6 inches and won the pole vault.
When B’ville’s girls competed in its CNYCL National meet last Wednesday at CNS, it earned 79 points, finishing fourth out of seven teams. Liverpool (162 points) held off CNS (153 points) to finish in front.
Laura Farleman won the five-event pentathlon, earning 2,393 points to beat CNS’s Jessica Wheeler by 317 points.
Jaimee Balloni, who was third in the 800 (2:22.76), joined Kristina Sprague, Nicole Fecco and Ashley Shaheen as they earned second place in the 4×800 relay in 10:02.14. CNS (9:58.09) finished in front. B’ville got third in the 4×400 (4:19.56) and fourth in the 4×100 in 52.96 seconds.
Cathleen Green took second in the long jump, going 16 feet 8 inches, and was fifth in the 100 high hurdles in 16.98 seconds. Miranda Nicoletti finished second in the shot put, tossing it 33 feet 1 1/2 inches.
Bri Pollard earned third place in the 100-meter dash in 13.30 seconds and was also third in the 200 in 27.40 seconds.
Danae Polsin ran to third place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:04.41, with Danielle Reimer sixth, as Polsin also got fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:59.32. M.C. Cunningham and Kylie Mosher were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
