Hamilton’s softball team began the last week of the regular season by going to Morrisville-Eaton last Monday and pulling away at the end to beat the Warriors 7-1. A first-inning run pushed the Emerald Knights in front, and it scored twice in the third inning to make it 3-0 before M-E got its only run in the bottom of that frame. Warriors pitcher Jen Horton had seven strikeouts, and kept it close until the top of the seventh, when Hamilton pushed across four runs to ice it. Jenna Whyatt and Calyn Fisher each had two RBIs on the Emerald Knights’ behalf, with Sara Whyatt adding two hits. Despite two hits from M-E teammates Rae Brown and Sam Pearsall, Hamilton pitcher Samantha Martin earned the win, striking out eight. As this was going on, Hamilton’s baseball team kept M-E from reaching the win column for the first time this season in a 13-4 decision. Even with its state ranking, the Emerald Knights didn’t get way until, with a 7-4 lead, it scored six times in the top of the seventh inning, two of them coming home on winning pitcher Kinon Nolan-Finkel’s triple. Jordan Doroshenko also tripled, with Lucas Rhyde adding two hits. M-E teamamtes Justin Thayer, Matt Pelton and Ryan Grabiec each had two hits.
