Cazenovia’s girls track and field team made a strong statement during last Tuesday’s OHSL Liberty division championship meet at Marcellus High School.
Overall, the Lakers earned 99 points, taking third place. Skaneateles won, with 163 points, while Christian Brothers Academy (113 points) took second despite winning the regular-season league title.
Paige Biviano beat the field in the 100-meter high hurdles, her time of 16.99 seconds beating Homer’s Jaclyn Yonta (17.26 seconds) as Meghan Morrow finished sixth.
Biviano also won the triple jump, going 32 feet 3 1/4 inches, as Chelsea Procopio landed in fifth place. Elsewhere, Biviano got third in the high jump (4 feet 10 inches).
Piper Gianforte took second in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches, with Molly Woodworth third in the shot put (28 feet 3 inches) and Christy Tainter fifth. Grace Eberle threw the discus 77 feet for fourth place. Laura Fitch and Devyn Speer were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the pentathlon.
Hollie Marcelle ran her way to third place in the 800-meter run in 2:23.72, plus a sixth in the 1,500-meter run. Meaghan Liddell got fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.63 as Rae Tobey finished fourth (8:28.26) in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Audrey Bowers was second in the long jump, going 15 feet 5 inches, as Biviano (14 feet 11 inches) finished fourth. Bowers also earned fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.60 seconds) and sixth in the 200-meter dash.
Of the three relays, Cazenovia fared best in the 4×400, where Liddell, Marcelle, Ellen Burr and Rachel Schmidtka finished third in 4:25.34. The Lakers were also fourth in the 4×800 (11:05.79) and fifth in the 4×100 (54.63 seconds).
In the nine-team OHSL Liberty boys meet, Cazenovia claimed seventh place, with 33 points, as Skaneateles (109.5 points) edge past Westhill (106) and Marcellus (104) for the top spot.
Joe Bono, in the discus, threw it 130 feet 11 inches, yet still took second place as Westhill’s Tom Fisher (145 feet 11 inches) set a new meet record.
Eric Goldman earned second in the long jump, going 18 feet 3 inches, and added a third (37 feet 9 1/2 inches) in the triple jump. Pat Dermody ran to fourth place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:03.52, with Nico Schmidt fourth in the 110 high hurdles in 16.78 seconds.
