Making its way back into the OHSL Freedom division race, the Chittenango girls track and field team ripped past Fulton and Fowler last Wednesday afternoon, beating the Red Raiders 87-54 and the Falcons 101-39.
Courtney Dyer and Brittney Tirabassi both had multiple wins. Dyer took the 100-meter dash (13.2 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.0 seconds), while Tirabassi ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:17.1 and also cleared 4 feet 6 inches in the high jump.
Elsewhere, Samantha Marji prevailed in the long jump, going 13 feet 8 inches, while Carmen Hunn took the triple jump (28 feet 5 1/2 inches) and Alyssa Endres won the discus, throwing it 76 feet 7 inches.
Chittenango also took two of the three relays. Dyer, Meredith Furtado, Kelsey Pudney and Christina Gorden ran the 4×100 in 53.03 seconds, with Gorden and Furtado returning to help Jordan Donnelly and Kaitlin Alongi win the 4×400 in a time of 4:34.7.
In the boys meet, Chittenango beat Fowler 101-36, but could not keep up with unbeaten Fulton as it fell to the Red Raiders 109-32.
Bruce Gondeck broke the spell of Bears wins, taking the 110 high hurdles in 16.1 seconds, while Pat Gardner cleared 10 feet in the pole vault. Mike Bonner led Fulton with wins in the 100 (11.3 seconds) and 200 (23.1 seconds) sprints.
Both of Chittenango’s teams made the short trip down Route 5 to compete Friday in the Oneida Invitational.
The boys Bears had 30 points to finish eighth in a 22-team field. Gondeck finished second (16.28 seconds) to Oneida star Pat McLaughlin (14.97 seconds) in the 110 high hurdles.
Josiah Durfee emerged to take fourth place in the 3,200-meter run in 9:59.54 and helped the Bears finish fifth in the 4×800 relay in 9:03.19. Bohne was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 12.12 seconds.
