Led by Wanetta Rodney, Liverpool’s girls track and field team took full control in last Tuesday’s meet at West Genesee, pounding the Wildcats 95-46.
Rodney sprinted to first place in the 100-meter dash in 12.6 seconds and also won the 200-meter dash in 26.9 seconds. Also, Rodney teamed with Nachez Brown, Cara Scalisi and Armani Moore to win the 4×100 relay in a time of 51.6 seconds.
Moore earned her own title in the long jump, going 16 feet 4 1/2 inches, as Scalisi went 33 feet 8 1/2 inches to win the triple jump and Brown took the 100 high hurdles in 16.1 seconds.
Elsewhere in field events, Chelsea Attaway cleared 8 feet in the pole vault and Meagan Turner won the high jump by clearing 5 feet.
In an exciting 400-meter hurdles, Trina Bills beat WG’s Paige Copeland, 1:07.4 to 1:07.6, while Miranda McConnell won the 800-meter run (2:20.6) and Brigid Heenan needed 10:49.1 to win at 3,000 meters.
A day later, also in Camillus, the boys track Warriors proved less successful during an 81-60 loss to West Genesee.
Liverpool got most of its points in distance races. Alex Wilke, in a time of 2:00.3, beat WG’s Steve Houghmaster (2:01.7) in the 800, while Colin Savage won the mile, his time of 4:24.3 well ahead of Houghmaster (4:33.3). Anthony Brais won the 3,200-meter run in 10:10.7.
As Corey Bundrage took the 110 high hurdles (15.5 seconds), Brais joined Chris Clemons, Nick Hull and Zavon Watkins to take the 4×800 relay in 8:27.5. Savage, Wilke, Watkins and Pat Marsh won the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:30.9.
