Needing a spark somewhere to get itself back into post-season consideration, the Cazenovia baseball team found it at Skaneateles last Monday afternoon, winning the battle of Laker teams by a score of 10-5.
For a time, Sknaeateles had hovered near the top of the OHSL Liberty division, but back-to-back defeats to Bishop Ludden and Westhill had cooled them off.
Cazenovia would make things worse, breaking a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third inning, then scoring five times in the top of the fourth to seize a 9-2 advantage. Skaneateles would not catch up.
Mike Blanchard got the win, with Forest Blanchard and Zack Golden working in relief. It helped that Cazenovia did not make an error, while Skaneateles had four of them, negating the host Lakers’ 11-8 hit advantage. Golden finished with two RBIs as both Blanchard brothers, plus Drew Toole and Josten Smith, drove in one run apiece.
