Jamesville-DeWitt’s girls track and field teams dominated last Wednesday’s three-way meet with Fulton and Cortland, but it could only manage a split on the boys side.
In that girls meet, the Red Rams beat the Red Raiders and Purple Tigers by equal 126-15 margins, prevailing in nearly every individual or relay event.
Marae Tearney was first in both the 200-meter dash (27.1 seconds) and shot put (29 feet 5 1/2 inches), a unique double. She also teamed with Amanda Tan, Natalie Mannion and Linsay Royer to win the 4×100 relay in 52.4 seconds.
Mannion was victorious in the long jump (15 feet 4 inches), as she, along with Royer, Katy Pieri and Liz Pieri, ran the 4×400 relay in 4:20.8. Liz Pieri also won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.3.
Eileen Cody earned victories in both the 1,500 (5:16.7) and 3,000 (11:23.4) meter runs, as Paige Morrow needed 2:33.3 to prevail at 800 meters.
Grace Bradshaw, who won the triple jump (32 feet 5 inches), was in the 4×800 relay (10:42.8) with Alanna Wilson, Ameena Dye and Rebecca Doss.
Courtney Ellis took first in the 400 hurdles (1:15.3), with Marissa Colavaecchio clearing 9 feet 3 inches in the pole vault and Maggie Fuller clearing 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump. Brianna Young joined in by throwing the discus 84 feet 8 inches.
J-D, despite fine individual efforts on the boys side, lost a 71-70 nail-biter to Fulton while, at the same time, beat Cortland 113-28.
Bumkuth Jiak earned a win in the mile, finishing in 4:31.5, then took the 800-meter run in 2:04.5. Jiak also helped David Salbert, Max Smith and Tim Kendrick tear through the 4×400 relay in 3:33.6.
Mychal Weekes also won twice, in the discus (130 feet 8 inches) and shot put (44 feet 3 inches), with Salbert adding a triple jump title as he went 42 feet 11 inches.
Both of J-D’s teams made an impact during Friday’s Chittenango Coaches Invitational, as they got equal third-place finishes- the boys earning 77 points, the girls 49 points. Fayetteville-Manlius won both divisions.
Salbert and Kendrick went 1-2 in the triple jump, Salbert going 42 feet 10 1/2 inches as Kendrick (40 feet 7 1/2 inches) finished right behind. In the long jump, Salbert finished fifth as Curtis Walker (19 feet 6 1/2 inches) took third place. Walker also got fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25 seconds flat.
Jiak finished second in the 800 in 2:00.68 as Marcellus star Mike Quercia won in 1:59.35. Ben Kier worked his way to second place in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:10.57 and was also second in the unseeded mile. Eric Semmel ran to third in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.02, with Tyler Petersen fourth in 1:06.14. Alex Wilmot was fifth in the 400.
On the girls side, Mannion got to second in the long jump, going 15 feet 2 3/4 inches, as Colavecchio cleared 9 feet for second place in the pole vault and Amanda Tan finished fifth. Bradshaw went 31 feet 10 inches for third place in the triple jump.
Meanwhile, on the oval, Bradshaw, Dye, Doss and Morrow finished third in the distance medley relay in 13:51.68, while Tan, Royer, Mannion and Tearney ran to third in the 4×100 in 53.79 seconds. Liz Pieri was third in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.59 as Royer got fourth in the 100 in 13.97 seconds.
