The Camillus Village Board spent the bulk of the Wednesday April 22 meeting to discuss proposed Local Law 2 of 2009, which regulates the placement and usage of garbage receptacles within the village.
The public hearing for Local Law 2 was left open for the board’s next meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday April 29. One of the main goals of the law would be dispersing more evenly among taxpayers the cost of garbage service, which has long been unfairly distributed among single-family dwellings and multi-family residences. The law also addresses the transportation of trash into the village from non-residents who have been taking advantage of the village’s service.
Restore NY
The second public hearing set for April 22 was closed shortly after it began; the board moved ahead with the sponsorship of the Restore NY grant that applied for $2.3 million for renovations of the Camillus Cutlery property and $175,000 toward Dick Kirk’s project at 55 Main St.
Because the board’s letter of intent had included only the cutlery and 55 Main St. properties, no other village businesses could be included on the grant application.
The board has clarified on several occasions that the village is the sponsor for the grant, but any monies awarded as a result of the application would not be for village use. The grant funding would be

Memorial Day parade
The village again donated money this year to the Camillus Memorial Parade Committee, but was able to give twice as much as in previous years.
Normally, the village donates $200 toward the parade, which costs several thousand dollars to stage. But this year the board voted to contribute $400 to the committee’s effort, thanks for a savings from Feb Fest.
