Liverpool track splits with B’ville

When Liverpool’s track and field teams made the short trip to Baldwinsville last Tuesday, one of them found lots of success.

In the case of the girls Warriors, this meant displaying a vast amount of depth as it smothered the Bees by a score of 110-31.

Wanetta Rodney, Armani Moore, Nikki Liadka and Harmony Cross got together to win the 4×100 relay in 51.4 seconds, while Melissa Riehl, Ashlee Spears, Hannah Anthes and Kristi Kalahar took the 4×400 relay in a time of 4:38.2.

On her own, Rodney tore through the 100-meter dash in 12.8 seconds, winning as Cross did the same in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.5 seconds. Moore earned her title in the long jump, going 15 feet 5 inches.

Trina Bills ran to first place in the 400-meter dash in just 1:01.2, as Brigid Heenan took the 1,500-meter run in 5:01.1 and Kyla Bills (12:55) won at 3,000 meters. Nachez Brown earned first in the 200-meter dash in 27.6 seconds.

Moving to field events, Cara Scalisi won the triple jump, going 32 feet 3 1/2 inches, as Meagan Turner cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump and Erika Salem cleared 8 feet in the pole vault. Tatiana Gladney won the shot put (30 feet 2 inches) and Laura Racketa threw the discus 83 feet 4 inches.

A day later, it all turned around, as the boys Warriors could not keep B’ville from taking charge and lost by a score of 81-60.

Colin Savage led Liverpool’s efforts, as he ran to victory in the mile in 4:31.3, nearly three seconds ahead of B’ville’s Kyle McCabe, and added a 3,200-meter title in 9:57.5. Alex Wilke, in 2:01.8, held off Tim Chambers (2:02.1) to win the 800.

Wilke, Chris Clemons, Justin Albro and Zavon Watkins combined to win the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:38.5, just ahead of the Bees (3:40.9). This came after Watkins, Clemons, Wilke and Anthony Brais won the 4×800 relay in a strong 8:21.

Corey Bundrage won twice, blowing away the field in the 110 high hurdles (15.4 seconds) and needing 1:00.5 to beat Andrew Hoover (1:01.7) and take the 400-meter hurdles. Brian Greene earned Liverpool’s lone title in field events, tossing the shot put 38 feet 7 inches.

B’ville saw Sean Bernstein win the 100-meter dash (10.9 seconds), 200-meter dash (22.8 seconds) and high jump (5 feet 8 inches), plus help the Bees’ 4×100 relay team win in 45.0 seconds.

Both of Liverpool’s teams would see action on Saturday, with the girls going to Central Square and co-hosting the Warrior/Hawk Invitational and the boys heading back to B’ville for the John Arcaro Memorial Relays.

On the girls side, McConnell prove quite good, winning the 800-meter run in 2:20.4, with Putman in third place (2:25.3), and also finishing second in the 1,500 in 5:00.3 as Pulaski’s Katie Weisenburger (4:56.3) prevailed. Bills would win the 400-meter dash in 1:00.4, 1.2 seconds better than B’ville’s Jaime Balloni.

The Warriors won the 4×100 relay as Moore, Rodney, Cross and Scalisi got a time of 50.2 seconds, a full second ahead of runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt. Liverpool also finished second in the sprint medley relay in 4:32.7 as CNS (4:20.5) finished in front.

Heenan ran to second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (7:39.6), with Bills (7:57.2) in fourth place. Moore was third in the long jump, going 16 feet 10 3/4 inches, and seventh in the 100-meter dash as the Warriors also took third in the 4×400 (4:28.3) and fourth (10:40.1) in the 4×800.
