Breaking out of its early-season woes, the Baldwinsville baseball team went to Falcon Park last Friday and earned an 8-7 victory over the Auburn Maroons.
Kept from playing Cicero-North Syracuse on Thursday, the Bees arrived fresh and eager to deal with the Maroons, who had just taken a 7-6 loss to Oswego the day before.
Through the first two innings, they exchanged rallies and stayed tied, 3-3, but Auburn appeared to take control with a three-run third inning that forced B’ville’s starting pitcher, Bo Watson, out of the game.
Again, the Bees would answer, getting four runs in the top of the fourth to seize a 7-6 lead. Though the Maroons would tie it in the bottom of that frame, B’ville reliever Jeff Schuster would settle down and shut down Auburn the rest of the way.
It was still 7-7 when, in the top of the seventh, Danny Dubiel reached third base. With one out, Dubiel took off for home, and John Harper’s squeeze bunt allowed Dubiel to score the go-ahead run. Schuster then got the final three outs for the win.
