The Skaneateles boys lacrosse team, who starts the season with six straight road games, visited Homer Thursday night and got an even better win, outlasting the Trojans 11-8.
Homer, who reached the Class C semifinals a season ago, were 2-0 and, in Paul Armideo and Carl Zimmerman, had one of the area’s best scoring duos.
But after playing to a 2-2 first-quarter draw, Skaneateles took over in the second period, clamping down on defense and putting up four unanswered goals.
And even though Homer closed within two, 8-6, it could not catch up, with Zimmerman (two goals) and Armideo (four assists) never able to take over the way they had in earlier games.
Kelly Donigan continued to produce for the Lakers, scoring three times and adding three assists, while Patrick Emmer earned three goals and one assist. Baier put in two goals as Nathan Hunt, Tom Schoener and Kevin Castle took turns getting goals.
Skaneateles will continue to face road tests next week, going to Westhill Tuesday and facing defending Class B champion Carthage on Thursday before playing Cazenovia Saturday on the turf at Homer.
