Curry runs to second at state indoor meet

Not only did Bishop Ludden’s Sean Curry get to the medal podium during last Saturday’s state indoor track and field championship meet at Cornell University, he very nearly got to the top spot.

Curry competed in the 3,200-meter run and went right to the lead, keeping it through much of the two-mile event. However, Robert Andrews (Shoreham-Wading River) tailed Curry, then passed him during a quick final lap.

When they hit the line, Curry, in a time of nine minutes, 16.14 seconds, was second as Andrews won in 9:13.67 and would later add a second-place finish in the mile.

West Genesee’s Katie Bott competed in the girls 1,000-meter run and earned 27th place in a time of 1:44.93. Charlene Lipsey (Hempstead) won in 1:33.10.
