Showing its depth and versatility, the Skaneateles girls indoor track and field team put up a first-rate effort during last Monday night’s Section III Class B championship meet at Manley Field House.
Even with its 95 points, though, the Lakers still had to settle for second place as Christian Brothers Academy, with 137 points, took the top spot. Clinton (78 points) finished third.
Victoria Sakal’s sprint dominance continued as she was responsible for 28 points all by herself. Sakal won the 55-meter dash in 7.49 seconds and helped Cassie Berg, Carley Baulick and Kelsey Eshleman prevail in the 4×200 relay in 1:53.95. Sakal also finished second in the 300-meter dash in 43.63 seconds.
Over in the 4×800 relay, Skaneateles prevailed again as Christie Barnett, Beatrice Walton, Allison Goetzman and Carley Strods gained a time of 10:16.14 that beat CBA by more than seven seconds. Eshleman, Barnett, Strods and Alexis Mazzeo had a second-place clocking of 4:27.88 in the 4×400 relay.
Eileen Ford was second in the 600-meter run in 1:42.88 as Walton ran to second in the 1,000 (3:15.66) and Barnett took third place in 1:43.13. Mazzeo was fourth (5:24.46) in the 1,500-meter run. Chelsea Scholz got sixth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.86 seconds.
Madison Eckles continued her season-long domination and won the pole vault, the only Class B athlete to clear 9 feet. Cheryl Dean tossed the shot put 27 feet 1 inch for third place, while Ford had a fourth-place triple jump of 30 feet 3 1/4 inches.
