The village board accepted the resignation letter of Mayor Tom Grant in executive session Tuesday, Jan. 27; Grant’s position as mayor will end effective Feb. 18.
In his letter, Grant stated he intentionally timed his resignation to allow for the vacant position to be immediately filled by appointment rather than by special election when the village holds elections March 18.
Deputy Mayor Kurt Brunger is widely expected to be appointed to the mayoral position, which would leave both Brunger’s and Ed Norcross’ trustee seats open on Election Day.
Camillus Fire Department President Jesse Norcross delivered a short fire report, in which he told the board the fire contract with the town of Camillus, which had been accepted and signed by the village board the meeting prior, was under review with the fire department.
Norcross said he was not aware of any reason the contract would not be accepted by the department.
At press time, the contract, which for the first time requires the five departments within the town of Camillus to keep one another listed on 911 call boxes, had not been returned to the town.
Norcross also announced a Comedy Night to be hosted by the CFD on Friday, Feb. 27. The event will include three national comedy acts, beer and wine and a small menu, and will benefit the 2009 Onondaga County Fire Fighter’s Convention, to be hosted by CFD at Veteran’s Memorial at Gillie Lake in August.
The board also addressed the issue of the village’s trash truck, which is in need of replacement. The cost of buying a new truck is being weighed against the cost to outsource trash pick-up, and will continue to be addressed by the board.
The next village of Camillus board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at village hall.
