Oneida’s girls volleyball team made a stirring comeback in Monday night’s match against Carthage to beat the Comets in five games.
After a 25-11 rout in the opener, the Indians lost the next two games by scores of 25-19 and 25-22. Coming back, Oneida won the fourth game 25-20, then withstood one more Comets charge to pull out the fifth game 26-24 and finish on top.
Rachel Kline set a new career mark with 37 kills in this match, an average of more than seven kills per game. Paige Pendleton offered the front-line help, with 13 kills and six blocks. Shannon Dowling fed them with 46 assists as Kelsey Wagner put together seven aces.
On the boys side, Oneida nearly got a sweep of Chittenango, but still beat the Bears in four games 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13.
As it wore down Chittenango, David Watson got 22 assists, plus 10 kills and three blocks, while Matt Bonville had 19 assists. Mike Rabbit set the front-line pace with 19 kills and five blocks, with Aaron Meyers close behind as he earned 13 kills.
