Put up against one of the OHSL Liberty division powers, the Skaneateles wrestling team only snagged three of 14 matches during last Wednesday night’s 55-12 loss to the Hannibal Warriors. And those wins came in back-to-back matches. At 135 pounds, Chad Gray battled past Blair Taylor 7-2, while Jacob Carvalho (140 pounds) edged past Joe Lewis in a 9-8 decision. At 145 pounds, Nathan Hunt pinned Joel Kinville in 3:42. Hannibal won every other match, though, including a trio of forfeits. Chris Wise did go six minutes in his 171-pound match, though he lost to Josh Lewis 6-0. Three days later, Skaneateles appeared at the Fabius-Pompey Dual Meet and went 4-1, conquering everyone except Chittenango, who prevailed with a 5-0 mark. In that decisive match, the Bears beat Skaneateles 47-8, but that was the lone blemish. The Lakers ripped Harpursville 51-18, took out Deposit-Hancock 38-27, edged past host Fabius-Pompey 33-28 and also beat Tully. Gray ended up as the Lakers’ Most Outstanding Wrestler at this meet. In a busy week ahead, Skaneateles visits Onondaga on Tuesday, then turns around to face Southern Cayuga Wednesday and Red Creek on Friday night.
