Fuming after a sweep at the expense of Cazenovia two nights earlier, the Marcellus girls volleyball team roared back.
The Mustangs took out its collective anger Thursday night on Solvay, pounding the Bearcats in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-11 sweep.
Samantha Vulcano, who finished with 17 assists, fed a front line where Kassie Phillips had seven kills and Kayla Howard returned to form with five kills and five blocks. Also, Rebecca Eddy had four kills, with Jenna Sniffen and Kelly McInerney each getting three kills.
Skaneateles, meanwhile, aced its only match of the week, roaring to a 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of Hannibal to improve to 11-0.
The well-rested Lakers (who hadn’t played since beating Cazenovia a week earlier) improved to 11-0 behind Chloe Warner’s 19 assists. Up front, Ryan Merle had nine kills, Emily Wood got eight kills and Katherine Hill added seven kills. Alexa Campanile (four aces), Destin VanTyle (three aces, three assists) and Leigh Ryan (three aces) made solid contributions, too.
All this came in advance of the rematch between Skaneateles and Marcellus, played Monday to make up a Dec. 22 snow postponement.
