Battling to stay above the .500 mark, the Jordan-Elbridge girls basketball team and paid the price for a rough start during a 64-54 loss to the Gaelic Knights — a game where Ludden sophomore Ashley Cianfriglia took a starring role. Ludden (7-2), lodged right behind Westhill in the OHSL Liberty standings, jumped all over J-E in the first quarter. Cianfriglia hit all kinds of shots on her way to giving the Gaelic Knights a 24-4 edge in just eight minutes’ time. J-E, to its immense credit, refused to go away. In the third quarter, a series of baskets led to the Eagles doubling Ludden’s output and pulling within nine, 48-39, before Cianfriglia and Michelle Roesch hit some key baskets down the stretch to thwart the comeback. Setting a new career mark, Cianfriglia poured in 30 points, half of it coming from five successful 3-pointers. J-E couldn’t concentrate its defense on Cianfriglia, either, as Roesch worked in the paint to pick up 16 points. As for the Eagles, Molly Hourigan had a strong showing, setting her own career high with 18 points as Liz Caspari added 13 points and Kate Dungey got 10 points.
