The state-ranked Hamilton boys basketball team’s hot streak got halted on Saturday, at Westmoreland, when the pace slowed down and the Emerald Knights took a 45-43 defeat in the makeup of a snowed-out Dec. 19 game.
All game long, it proved to be tight, and Hamilton led for long portions, but the Bulldogs outscored them 15-12 in the fourth quarter and edged in front.
Other than Matt Broedel, who had 16 points, and Derrick Cenicola, who gained 13 points (including three 3-pointers), the Emerald Knights did little on the offensive side.
For Westmoreland, Dan DeCarlo and James Colburn each had 11 points, and they got help from Ryan Mathis (eight points) and Taylor Brockway (seven points), which made a difference.
On Tuesday night, Hamilton, now at 8-3, will host neighbor Morrisville-Eaton before going to West Canada Valley Friday to seek revenge for a Dec. 15 loss to the defending Section III Class C champion Indians.
