Bouncing back from a 10-1 defeat to Rome Free Academy two nights earlier, the Hamilton ice hockey team visited Westmoreland Thursday night and would turn things around, hanging on in the end to beat the Bulldogs 6-5. All game long, the two sides traded goals. From a 1-1 first-period tie, Hamilton scored three times in the second period, edging in front 4-3, and answered each time Westmoreland would convert down the stretch, too. Will Keever, by scoring twice, led a balanced Emerald Knights offense. Joe Santoro, Tyler White, Adam Jackowski and Kinnon Nolan-Finkel each had one goal, with B.J. Drozynski earning two assists. Blaine Holcomb and Peter Peone earned assists, too. Each of Brandon Rush’s 27 saves would prove to be important. Sean Grogan (two goals, one assists) and Alex Foster (one goal, two assists) led the Bulldogs’ attack. Hamilton on Saturday will go to State Fair Coliseum to face Solvay, the team it lost to in a shootout in the Dec. 30 finals of the “King of the Coliseum” Tournament.
