For the first time this winter, the Westhill and Solvay girls basketball teams got a look at each other, and the Warriors used that opportunity to regain control of this neighborhood rivalry.
Westhill beat the Bearcats 53-30 last Tuesday night, moving to 9-0 on the season as it limited Solvay to 10 first-half points and settled matters early.
Carly Cooper and Emily Haggerty each hit on three 3-pointers. Cooper finished with 17 points and Haggerty added 12 points, while Sam Marshall put home 10 points and Annie O’Connor earned eight points. Tessa Pucello paced Solvay with 10 points.
This came on the heels of the Bearcats’ close 41-36 loss to Marcellus on Jan. 9, a game where Solvay again had a rough first half, getting just nine points, yet used a 14-5 run in the third quarter to make it close.
Tessa Pucello, with 15 points, led Solvay’s rally, as Liz Martinez gained nine points and Anna Pucello got six points. Melissa Lee paced Marcellus with 13 points.
Both teams will play on Thursday night – Westhill against Sknaeateles, Solvay at Cazenovia.
