In the midst of the hottest streak in the program’s history, the Cicero-North Syracuse ice hockey team had a chance to solidify playoff credentials against the team with which it generously shares its home ice. The Northstars, following a 24-hour weather delay, took on Fayetteville-Manlius at the Twin Rinks Friday night, and the two teams that share the facility waged a fine battle before the Hornets prevailed 5-2. For much of the night, CNS was in a catch-up mode, forced there by F-M’s main line. Andrew Lane had two goals and two assists, with Matt Esposito and Billy Kent each adding a goal and two assists. The Northstars, despite goals by Anthony Cirillo and Cody Spadaro, could not answer every time. Aaron Hildreth, Billy Temple and Brad Monroe each had one assist. In defeat, goaltender Joe Feldman made 21 saves. Prior to that, the Northstars’ roll continued in last Tuesday’s game against Oswego, where a fast start translated into a 7-3 victory over the Buccaneers. Attacking at will in the first period, CNS tore out to a 4-0 lead, then would spend the rest of the night thwarting Oswego’s comeback attempts. With his latest hat trick, Hildreth gained three goals and two assists, as Will Kaljeskie poured in two goals of his own, adding two assists. Cirillo filled out the line with a goal and three assists as Nick Hall also found the net. Alex Zubrowski, Kyle Siegle, Monroe and Zach Ryan each had one assist. Ithaca will come to the Twin Rinks Tuesday night before the Northstars take on archrival Liverpool Thursday night at State Fair Coliseum.
