Leave it to the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team to provide the introduction to the 2008-09 season in the pool.
Coming off last year’s run to the Section III Class A title, the Red Rams entered this campaign with a 41-meet win streak, and plenty of talent under head coach Bob Bewley to win it all again.
J-D/CBA took on Fulton last Wednesday night and ran the win streak to 42, in control throughout a 96-78 victory over the Red Raiders.
In the 200 medley relay, Garrett Farchione, Tyghe Speidel, Allan Runions and Max Devesty combined for a top time of 1:49.23 to put the Red Rams quickly in the win column.
From there, Speidel would win the 200 individual medley in 2:03.11, then break five minutes in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 4:58.71.
As for Garrett Farchione, he finished first in the 50 freestyle (24.17 seconds) as his brother, Russ, took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.97. Runions lost a close 100 backstroke race to Fulton’s Mike Fruce, 1:04.34 to Fruce’s 1:04.22.
As for Eric Jorgensen, he tore through the 200 freestyle in 1:51.76 as an opening act, then moved to the 100 freestyle and recorded a time of 50.44 seconds.
Shawn Thieke, the top diver with 175.05 points, combined with Kyle Mooney, Ryan Daley and Paul Daniels to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:54.99. Scott Thieke helped out by winning the 100 butterfly in 59.93 seconds.
