Not content just to stay undefeated, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team accomplished a lot more in the course of last Thursday night’s 53-40 victory over Baldwinsville.
On two different occasions, the Hornets set Baker High School pool records. First, in the 200 medley relay, Melissa James, Hadley Cameron-Carter, Elizabeth Patrick and Alex Murphy tore to a time of 1:58.83 to set a new mark.
Then Patrick set a second pool record on her way to winning the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:03 flat, and this came after she also earned victory in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.12.
Ally Anderson was active, too, needing 2:04.27 to earn first place in the 200 freestyle before roaring to victory in the 100 freestyle in 56.87 seconds. And in the 200 freestyle relay, Anderson, James, Murphy and Caitlin Wilcoxen combined for a time of 1:46.74.
Aside from her pair of relay wins, James also notched first place in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.66, while Katie Pechacek needed 5:55.02 to prevail in the 500 freestyle.
As this was going on, Christian Brothers Academy went down the road to face Jamesville-DeWitt.
And it turned out to be a strong show for the Brothers, who won every early event on its way to a 99-70 victory over the Red Rams.
To start with, CBA’s 200 medley relay quartet of Summer Schmitt, Kathryn Coughlin, Aubrey Letourneau and Mary Fletcher combined for a time of 1:54.66, one of the best in Section III this season.
Schmitt won twice on her own, claiming the 200 individual medley in 2:22.78 and adding a top time of 1:03.71 in the 100 butterfly, while Letourneau needed exactly 57 seconds to win the 100 freestyle.
Maggie Fletcher, in the 50 freestyle, swam to a time of 26.15 seconds. Destiny Cerlanek tore through the 200 freestyle (2:02.49), while Emily Wanamaker earned 202.70 points in diving. Ruthie Speidel had a swift clocking of 5:12.00 in the 500 freestyle.
J-D’s fine moments came in the late going. Haley Russell took the 100 breaststroke (1:20.26) after she teamed with Bridget O’Grady, Gillian McGann and Ashley Buck to swim the 200 freestyle relay in 2:00.29.
