As the hosts of its own invitational meet on a sultry Saturday afternoon, the Jordan-Elbridge track and field teams made quite an impact.
And Katie Darling would make the most noise, giving the Eagles victories in four different events before the meet was done.
Darling posted the best Section III long jump of the season so far, going 16 feet 11 inches. She also prevailed in the triple jump with a best attempt of 32 feet 4 inches.
Moving over to the track oval, Darling needed 13.1 seconds to finish first in the 100-meter dash, and capped off her big day by going 27.2 seconds to prevail in the 200-meter dash. Darling also helped the Eagles’ 4×400 relay team get second place in 4:34.8.
Elsewhere in this meet, J-E’s Lyndsay Hollis won the 400-meter hurdles in a clocking of 1:09.8 and finished second in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.2. Nicole Darling earned second place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:06.8 and also ran to third (2:35.2) at 800 meters. Lisa Kimak cleared 4 feet 6 inches to tie for fourth in the high jump.
On the boys side, J-E’s Cody Stanton came close to winning the 3,200-meter run, finishing in 10:10.2, inches behind Onondaga’s Chris Martin (10:10.1).
Mike Marrero and Greg Bader were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the mile, while Andrew Conlan and Pat Cooper occupied those same spots in the discus. John Flynn tied for fifth in the high jump.
Other local teams also did well on the boys side. Solvay’s Elwood Manning ran 800 meters in 2:01 flat, the fastest Section III time of the season, and also had a part in the Bearcats winning the 4×800 relay as he, Will Hnatko, Paul Delprato and Jeremy Parker put up a top time of 8:24.3. Solvay’s 4×400 relay team took second place in 3:41.3.
Conor Halton won the 400 hurdles in 1:01.9, with Brian Wright (1:03.9) in fourth place. Parker, on his own, grabbed fifth place in the 200-meter dash (24.2 seconds), while C.J. Brooks took fourth in the discus (108 feet 8 inches) and fifth in the shot put (39 feet 4 1/2 inches). Jeremy Santaferra cleared 11 feet to tie for third in the pole vault.
Bishop Ludden star Daquan Grobsmith won the long jump, going 21 feet, and also took third in the 100-meter dash (11.3 seconds) and sixthin the 200 in 24.3 seconds.
Solvay’s girls team went to last Wednesday’s Tully Spring Break Invitational and finished fifth, with 11 points. Christine Armstrong was second in the 100-meter high hurdles (17.2 seconds), while Rebecca Balduzzi gained runner-up statuts in the 200-meter dash in 28 seconds.
Then, at J-E, Armstrong finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.9 seconds), as Balduzzi got fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.6 seconds) and fifth in the 200 (28.9 seconds).
In this first week of OHSL Liberty division meets, J-E and Solvay face each other in a three-way meet at Cazenovia, with Ludden confronting CBA.
