Opening-week wins over East Syracuse-Minoa and Cicero-North Syracuse allowed the Jamesville-DeWitt baseball team to soar into the heart of OHSL Freedom division play — and it just kept on flying once it got there.
Visiting Homer last Monday afternoon, the Red Rams improved to 3-0 by leading all the way through a 7-3 victory over the Trojans.
J-D tagged Homer pitcher Dan Miller for three runs in the top of the first inning to assume a lead it would never relinquish.
It got to 7-0 before Rams pitcher Andrew Hughes allowed a run, but he still safely earned the victory as Homer could not take full advantage of its 12 hits off Hughes and reliever David Degroat-Ives.
Dylan Sacks, Mick Hagan and Anthony Dunn led J-D at the plate, each of them driving in two runs, as Hughes earned one RBI.
Mike Gianni would seize the spotlight in Wednesday’s game against Phoenix, shutting down the Firebirds as the Rams won, 6-0, to make it four wins in a row.
Gianni, with last-inning relief help from Degroat-Ives, allowed just three hits, getting early run support as J-D scored in each of the first three innings to build a 5-0 edge.
At the plate, John Sheedy doubled and drove in two runs, as Hughes, Dunn, Dan Piciucco and Mark Kuhn each picked up one RBI in an 11-hit attack.
