During the week of winter break, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team did not rest.
Instead, the Northstars went out and swept through the CNY Counties League National division championships at Manley Field House.
The CNS girls fended off Liverpool in a tight contest Monday night. The Northstars finished with 115 points, to the Warriors’ total of 112.5 points.
Many different times, CNS would beat Liverpool head-to-head to gain crucial points. In the 4×800 relay, Lauren Spink, Taylor Wendler, McKaye Neumeister and Alicia Greco pulled away to a time of 10:02.27, more than 18 seconds ahead of the Warriors.
In the 600-meter run, Lauren Spink and Liverpool’s Miranda McConnell dueled, with Spink, in a time of 1:45.32, holding off McConnell (1:45.65) to finish on top. In the 1,000-meter run, Neumeister won in 3:05.53 as another Warrior, Trina Bills (3:07.59), got the runner-up spot.
CNS went 1-2 in the 1,500-meter run, with Wendler prevailing in 5:10.62 and Nicole Campagna (5:14.15) in second place. Wendler also won the 3,000-meter run in 10:53.69 as teammate Lindsay Raulli finished fifth.
Monique Roberts cleared 5 feet 4 inches to win the high jump as Gina Campagna (5 feet 2 inches) took second. Roberts also was second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.42 seconds), to make up for Jasmine Thompson’s false start.
Thompson still finished second in the triple jump (33 feet 11 1/2 inches) just ahead of Neumeister, in third place (33 feet 10 1/4 inches), as Kristina Cloinger got sixth in the shot put and Alana Hotchkiss earned sixth place in the long jump.
The Northstars also gained fourth in the 4×400 relay (4:20.68) and fifth in the 4×200 relay (1:56.71) as Greco, Hotchkiss, Gina Campagna, Natalie Agosh, Shanara Mack, Brittany Capsello, Katie Kennedy and Leigha DiStefano all took part.
