Skaneateles residents reach out to help the Samaritan Center
Karen Buchholz, Connie Coates, JD Delmonico, Jennifer Ellsworth, Jacque McConnaghy, Larry Palmieri and Erin Sammut are working on final touches to the Aug. 5 Beach, Blues & Bar-B-Que, an annual event on the “point” at the Skaneateles Country Club held for the benefit of the Samaritan Center. This year the event is chaired by locals Bill and Penny Allyn.
“We are excited about both the silent and oral auction items, which should entice our guests to part from their money,” Erin Sammut said. ” Right now we have two fishing trips for four to Savanna Dhu, a lovely piece of furniture from MacKenzie-Childs and a breathtakingly beautiful necklace in our oral auction, but it is the wide variety of items in the silent auction, donated by local people that should attract the most attention.”
“It is the quality of the event that is a big draw,” JD Delomonico said. “With food from the Dinosaur, beverages from Anheuser-Busch and entertainment by Joe Whiting and Loren Barrigar, people want to be there. It’s a relaxing, fun filled afternoon on the lake.”
Jacque McConnaghy thinks that the Finger Lakes Wine Tasting which opens the event from 5 to 6 p.m. is an important draw. Wineries such as Lamoreaux Landing, Standing Stone, King Ferry and Buttonwood Grove will be available from 5 to 6 p.m. to showcase their best vintages and varietals. Larry Palmieri, a member of the Board of Directors of the Samaritan Center, joins with Connie Coates and Karen Buccholz to point out that the purpose for the event, to help fund the daily meals given without questions or preconditions to hungry and homeless men, women and children in Syracuse is an important reason why area people support and enjoy the event. “People from Skaneateles are generous and understanding of the work of the Samaritan Center, an interfaith program to provide a local solution to local problems.” Palmieri also wants everyone to know that the legendary Al Colella from the 19th hole will again be tending bar at the event (What more could you need).
