Through three games, the Jamesville-DeWitt softball team has not allowed a run, and Caitlin Tessier has impressed everyone with her pitching dominance.

In its lone league outing last Tuesday afternoon, the Red Rams took quick command against Cortland and kept it, shutting out the Purple Tigers 8-0.

Much of that cushion came in the bottom of the second inning, when J-D erupted for four runs off Natalie Mieras to make the score 5-0.

From there, it was simply a question of whether Caitlin Tessier could keep her no-hitter. She did so until the seventh and final inning, when Cortland notched a pair of hits. Still, Tessier finished with the shutout, fanning 13 along the way.

Megan Maycumber led the Rams’ attack, with a double and three RBIs. Leah Porter drove in two runs, while Kathryn Heim added her own RBI and Lauren Alciati doubled.

A day later, the Red Rams met Oneida, and Tessier managed to gain her first varsity no-hitter in the course of a 9-0 victory over the Indians.

Only once was Tessier in any trouble. With one out in the first inning, the Indians put runners on second and third. Staying cool, Tessier coaxed Kara Peck to pop out and Kelsie Sholtzhauer to strike out, the first of seven consecutive K’s.

Overall, Tessier earned 13 strikeouts, and got all the run support she needed in a big third-inning rally.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Oneida pitcher Beth Kann uncorked a wild pitch, launching a sustained outburst where seven runs crossed the plate. Brittany Printup’s two-run single highlighted that outburst, and Maycumber would add a triple and three RBIs before it was done.

J-D has weekend games scheduled at home against Baldwinsville and CBA – if it stays dry.
