Paced by Melissa Zajdel’s trio of titles, the Christian Brothers Academy girls indoor track and field team earned the Section III Class C championship.
In that meet, pushed back a week by the Valentine’s Day snowstorm, the Brothers finished with 96 points, just ahead of Tully (76 points) and Skaneateles (74 points), who were second and third, respectively.
Zajdel had a total sweep of the sprints, starting with the 55-meter dash, where she prevailed in 7.65 seconds. She also beat the field in the 300-meter dash in 42.84 seconds and, for good measure, added a 600-meter championship in a time of 1:45.21.
Kristen Fekete prevailed in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, while Kasey Kearney earned the title in the shot put with a toss of 31 feet 9 1/4 inches.
In the 4×800 relay, Fekete teamed with Carol Giblin, Michaela Gildemeyer and Patrice Lawless to win that event in a time of 11:09.40. Lawless, Fekete, Kathleen Kirkman and Julia Quigley combined for a second in the 4×400 relay in 4:40.93.
Giblin was also third in both the 1,500-meter run (5:47.23) and 1,000, which she ran in 3:26.08. Gildemeyer took third place in the 3,000-meter run (12:02.97), while Lawless had a third-place triple jump of 29 feet 6 3/4 inches. Quigley got fifth in both the long jump (13 feet 1 3/4 inches) and 55-meter hurdles (10.58 seconds).
Up in Class B, East Syracuse-Minoa finished third, with 47 points, as Jamesville-DeWitt got sixth place with 28 points.
Leah Andrianos won the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:55.89, this after last Monday’s state qualifying meet where she won the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:39.27 to move on to the state meet March 3 at Cornell University.
The Spartans also prevailed in the shot put when Asisat Adebloa tossed the sphere 31 feet 1/4 inch. Jade Germany cleared 4 feet 10 inches to prevail in the high jump.
