One more meet separated the Cicero-North Syracuse boys indoor track and field team from a total sweep of all of its meets.
And the Northstars cleared that last hurdle with ease, beating Fayetteville-Manlius and everyone else to lay claim to the Section III Class A championship Monday night at Manley Field House.
For a night’s work, CNS piled up 123 points, well clear of F-M, who was second with 84 points. Liverpool was far behind, in third place with 56 points, as Henninger and Baldwinsville rounded out the top five.
Most of the Northstars’ damage was rendered in field events, where it gained 59 points and finished at or near the top everywhere.
Andy Kahl anchored this effort. He won the high jump by clearing 6 feet 4 inches, while no other Class A competitor even cleared 6 feet.
Elsewhere, Kahl earned second place in the long jump, going 18 feet 10 1/2 inches as Nick Orlando gained third place with 18 feet 8 3/4 inches. Much the same thing happened in the triple jump, where Kahl was second (40 feet 11 3/4 inches) and Andy Neumeister took third place, going 40 feet 7 1/4 inches.
Craig Barber cleared 11 feet 6 inches for second place in the pole vault as teammate Mike Fischer cleared 10 feet for third place. Over in the shot put, Dan Minahan earned six points for third place, tossing it 46 feet 11 1/2 inches.
Meanwhile, on the oval, CNS swept the top two spots in the 55-meter hurdles. Neumeister won a close race to the wire, in 8.43 seconds, as Ty Howington (8.45 seconds) was second, just two-hundredths of a second behind.
Neumeister’s success continued in the 4×400 relay, where he teamed with James Thurn, Jake Whritenour and Zach Marchese to post a winning time of 3:34.95, well clear of Nottingham (3:36.57) at the line. Thurn was also fifth in the 600-meter run in 1:29.95.
Ben Ludovici ran to second place in the 1,000-meter run in 2:38.06 as F-M star Tommy Gruenewald (2:35.23) prevailed. Nathan MacNabb earned third place in the mile in a clocking of 4:35.81, while Kevin Cusworth claimed fifth place (10:08.73) at 3,200 meters.
More points were gained in the 4×800 relay, where MacNabb, Whirtenour, Ludovici and Kevin Cusworth finished second in a clocking of 8:26.55 as Liverpool (8:25.11) finished in front.
Over in the 4×200 relay, Orlando, Marchese, Devin Young and Mike Fischer earned second place in a time of 1:35.72, just behind B’ville (1:35.29) for top honors. Orlando got fifth in the 55-meter dash in 6.84 seconds.
