With the field closing in, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team is needing every bit of its versatility to stay in front.
During Monday night’s John Arcaro Invitational at Manley Field House, the Northstars finished with 72 points, just enough to hold off Fayetteville-Manlius (63), Liverpool (59) and Baldwinsville (57) for the team crown.
Nearly half those points came from a trio of victories in field events. Sommer Cloinger continued her win streak in the shot put, tossing it 40 feet 6 inches, more than four feet better than anyone else.
Keriann Borke had much the same success, as her triple jump of 35 feet 5 3/4 inches took that event by nearly three feet. Meanwhile, in the high jump, Gina Campagna cleared 5 feet 2 inches as Emily Cimino (Central Square, 5 feet) finished second.
CNS also claimed two of the three relay events. Monique Roberts, Lauren Spink, McKaye Neumeister and Janise Harper combined to win the 4×200 relay in 1:50.81, well clear of Nottingham (1:54.26), who was second.
Over in the 4×400 relay, Neumeister, Harper, Spink and Katie Duerr slowly pulled away from the pack. The Northstars’ time of 4:08.45 beat Rome Free Academy (4:15.49) by more than seven seconds.
Borke was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.95 seconds as Campagna, in 9.57 seconds, took fifth place. In distance races, Taylor Wendler was fourth in the 1,500-meter run (5:03.29), while Lindsay Raulli (10:57.76) and Alicia Finger (11:01.00) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.
In the 4×800 relay, Lauren Slocum, Mallory Greenseich, Leigh DeStefano and Alicia Greco teamed up to finish fourth, in a time of 10:23.09.
