As it was working its way to the top in recent years, a big game on the horizon might have caused the Cazenovia boys basketball team to lose focus.

But not the 2006-07 edition of the Lakers, who showed that it was not looking past anyone last Monday night in a 60-34 rout of Faith Hertiage to move to 7-0 on the season.

Cazenovia was certainly aware of the fact that on Friday, Westhill would arrive at Buckley Gym in the latest chapter of the growing Lakers-Warriors rivalry – with first place in the OHSL Liberty division at stake.

Shrugging all that off, Cazenovia displayed some of its best offense of the season in the first half against Faith Heritage, roaring to a 38-15 lead.

By the break, the Lakers had all the points it needed, for its defense remained at a particularly high level, shutting down the Saints for long periods of time.

Chris Nourse kept getting in the way of Faith’s passes, accumulating seven steals as he also poured in 12 points. Aaron Burbidge had a team-best 13 points, while Trent Widrick hit a trio of 3-pointers to account for most of his 10 points and Cody Ash added eight points.

Andy Loucy, with 15 points, was the only Faith Heritage player to score in double figures. Its next-highest scorer, Andrew Scalisi, had just five points.
