Due to its OHSL Colonial National division title, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team garnered the no. 2 seed for the Section III Class A tournament.
Sure enough, the Bees found its way to the semifinals — and to another showdown with Liverpool, the no. 3 seed it defeated to get the league title in the first place.
And just like the first meeting, the Bees would end up in front, taking out the Warriors 4-2 on Monday afternoon to advance to Thursday’s final against Fayetteville-Manlius at Utica Parkway Courts.
Only darkness prevented B’ville from a doubles sweep that served as the foundation for this victory.
Bri Pollard and Lauren Dahm got it going with a 6-1, 6-1 romp over Ashleigh Caruso and Liz Kline. Adeline Schmidt and Jenny Onisk also needed just two sets to beat Amy Klymkow and Emily Zalewski 7-6, 6-1.
Just before the sun set, Cali Nizamis and Jessica Ferlanda put away Teresa Woloszyn and Lauren Inch 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Allison Levchak and Marian Carvalho had to abandon their match with Erin O’Neil and Christina Nicolais in a 4-4 third set.
By that point, though, the Bees had enough points because, in third singles, Alex Arnold routed Caitlin Hamilton 6-3, 6-0. Jenn Schmidt lost to Brianna Vogue 6-2, 6-0, and Becky Guzzo fell in three sets to Kayla DiPaulo 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.
B’ville got to Liverpool by making it through last Friday’s Class A quarterfinal, a 5-2 victory over no. 7 seed Auburn.
Polland and Jenn Schmidt won their singles matches by equal 6-1, 6-0 margins over, respectively, Sara Doan and Leeann O’Kussick.
The Bees would also go 3-1 in doubles. Alex Arnold and Nizamis swept Delaney Scollan and Emily Mastropietro 6-4, 6-2. Carvalho and Levchak beat Hailey Roth and Palak Patel 6-1, 6-2, while Onisk and Adeline Schmidt roared past Kara Mariano and Bryann Dusharm 6-1, 6-0.
Even the defeats were close. Lauren Schaefer and Ferlanda fell in three sets to Sonia Dubovici and Katie Searing 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. In first singles, Guzzo took a 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) loss to Melissa Coughlin.
