The Syracuse Shakespeare Festival along with the Syracuse Parks and Recreational Department will present the fourth annual Shakespeare In The Park, concluding with four shows this weekend at Thornden Park.
This year’s play, “The Taming of the Shrew,” will run through Sunday Aug. 20. Show times on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are 5:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The show features many veteran community theater actors and is directed by Dustin Czarny.
In bringing Katharina to life in this play, William Shakespeare presented one of his strongest female characters and a trailblazer for the 20th century women’s liberation movement. The Bard’s outrageously funny, is presented free of charge at the pastoral Thornden Park Amphitheatre, located off Ostrom Avenue, just east of the Syracuse University campus.
The Thornden Park Amphitheatre is handicapped accessible. Free parking and shuttle bus service will be available from nearby SU lots. Refreshments, lawn chairs and SSF merchandise will be sold. Donations are gratefully accepted. School-aged children and seniors are encouraged to attend. Many audience members bring their own picnic and make a day of it.
