ONONDAGA COUNTY – For the rest of the season, the Skaneateles girls swim team would not need to travel at all, taking part in seven consecutive home meets.
This long homestand commenced Thursday against New Hartford, and on the first day of April the Lakers did not have Hana Spaulding available, a key factor during a 101-84 defeat to the Spartans.
Still, Skaneateles claimed plenty of individual races, two of them by Ashley Drotar, who tore to a time of 25.38 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and then won the 100 freestyle in 55.51 seconds, just ahead of the 56.18 from New Hartford’s Emma Burke.
Grace King also prevailed twice, her 1:06.35 beating teammate Amelia Musso (1:08.90) in the 100 butterfly and then, in the 100 backstroke, going 1:07.93 to top the 1:11.62 from the Spartan’s Isabella Freiberger.
Arianna Matthews was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.55, edging New Hartfords’ Subeen Park in 1:15.71, after finishing second in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.50. Lili Winkelman was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:57.15.
Of the three relays, the Lakers only prevailed in the opening 200 medley relay, where King, Drotar, Matthews and Caitlin Comer finished in 2:02.02.
Two nights earlier, West Genesee, who had lost to Skaneateles on March 25, was able to compete at Baldwinsville and earned a 51-42 victory over the Bees.
Adrianna Gill, in exactly 29 seconds, took first place in the 50 freestyle ahead of the 29.60 from B’ville’s Maddie Sauro, while Anna Ivery went 59.67 seconds to pull away and win the 100 freestyle.
Allison Putnam was first in the 500 freestyle in 6:00.80 right before she paired with Ivery, Gill and Katie Kuppinger to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:57.78.
Mary Lyons (1:30.79) and Allison Shortslef (1:39.04) went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke as Lyons, Putnam, Camille Bohlli and Allie Straub went 4:18.05 in the 400 freestyle relay, exactly the same time as the Bees for a dead heat.
Putnam also finished second in the 200 freestyle, with Gill second in the 100 butterfly. B’ville got two wins apiece from Eva Smith (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly) and Ashley Konz (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke).
Skaneateles gets to host B’ville next week after it faces Syracuse as WG takes on Cicero-North Syracuse and Oswego.
