Dipping itself further into the Division II West league slate, the CBA/J-D ice hockey team looked to stay relatively dry — and undefeated, too.
That wasn’t difficult in last Monday’s game at State Fair Coliseum, where the Brothers beat the Solvay Bearcats 4-1.
Brian Karalunas was the total catalyst for CBA/J-D’s attack. He scored off a fast break 38 seconds into the game, then tore down the left side for another breakaway goal late in the first period to make it 2-0.
In between, the Brothers had a blizzard of opportunities as it held the power play for six consecutive minutes, but could not get anything past Joey Poppe, who made 19 of his 41 saves in that opening period.
Resuming his assault in the second period, Karalunas had two point-blank shots at the four-minute mark, allowing Grant Tracy to swoop in and score on the rebound.
Steve Modliszewski added a power-play goal, with Karalunas getting his second assist, later in the period to build the lead to 4-0.
Garrett Wichman played in the net and made 34 saves of his own, only allowing Josh Ginestro to score on a breakaway late in the second period. The win was CBA/J-D’s fifth in a row to start the season.
