At the library: Summer is not canceled
This summer may be strange, but summer reading must go on. We have tweaked our Explore Summer program to make sure kids and teens continue to read, learn, and have fun this summer. Explore Summer began July 1 and runs through Sept. 7, complete with many of the features you love about our summer reading program. Each kid can choose how they participate, but we have recommendations grouped by age.
Toddlers – kids going into second grade can request our Library Loot Booklet, filled with everything you need, including lists of activities and Library Loot coupons that let us know that you’ve earned prizes, like a potted plant, finger puppets, craft activities, and more.
Kids going into third through sixth grade can request our Kids Booklet, filled with activities to help you learn, create, play, and read more this summer. Everything you need is included in your booklets, including lists of activities and coupons that let us know that you’ve earned a raffle ticket and a chance to win a gift card from local places, like the Skaneateles Bakery, Skan-Ellus, and more.
Teens going into grades seven and up can complete different types of books listed in our Teen Booklet to earn a raffle ticket and a chance to win a gift cards to places like, Skoops, the Finger Lakes Drive-in, and more.
Once you’ve completed an activity, simply fill out the coupon in your booklet and drop it in our Explore Summer Mailbox on the library’s porch. This lets us know that you’ve earned a Library Loot prize or are enrolled in a gift card raffle. Participants can pick up any prizes or gift cards via curbside pickup. In our Kids and Teens Booklets, we also have an option for the library to send a toy or treat donation in your name to the CNY SPCA as a great way for giving back to some animals in need this summer.
