Despite the cancellation of the annual July 4th Foot Races, residents and visitors to Cazenovia can still get in their annual run around Independence Day. Three local sports teams have organized a virtual run that can be completed any time from July 1 to 7.
The 1 mile, 5K and 10 mile courses will be marked and participants can self-time their run any time during the first week of July. Spreading the competitors out over many hours and many days will allow for social distancing. Participants who aren’t able to make it to the actual course due to health concerns or travel restrictions can also complete the event on any route of their chosen distance. The run hosts will maintain an unofficial results page for the events based on the self-reported times.
Participants will be invited to make a donation to support the Laker athletic teams organizing the event. The Cazenovia athletes would also like to show their appreciation of our local first responders by sharing the proceeds from the race with the Cazenovia Fire Department and CAVAC. Sign-ups and donations can be made on RunSignUp.com (search Cazenovia Independence Run) or at runsignup.com/Race/NY/Cazenovia/CazenoviaIndependenceRun. Tee shirts to commemorate the event will also be produced and available for $10.
