Already, the improvement of the Cicero-North Syracuse boys tennis team is evident, based on the matches it won during the first two weeks of the regular season.
The Northstars had topped Oneida 3-2 on April 10 when, six days later, it faced Auburn, able to win every single point in this match as it got a 7-0 win over the Maroons.
Ryan Hill blanked Troy Wagner 6-0, 6-0, in singles, with Wyatt Dupell handling Matt Humphrey 6-1, 6-2. Only James Corl got into trouble among singles players, but rallied from it in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over William Clark.
All of the doubles matches went just two sets. Jonathan Corl and Brand Millias got it going with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Olecsander Colopelnic and James Mock.
Ethan Dupell and William Janusz worked past Jake Lupo and Tom Pilbeam 6-2, 6-3, with Josh Matyasik and Holden Sarosy rolling past Kevin and Ryan Stechuchak 6-0, 6-0. Janusz paired with Ryan Gallagher to beat Riley Fitzgerald and Zach Moore 6-2, 6-0.
Now the Northstars could focus on SCAC Metro division matches, three of them this week as it would host Baldwinsville, West Genesee and Syracuse City.
Liverpool also had a non-league match against Auburn during the school break, meeting them 24 hours after C-NS did and, like the Northstars, the Warriors won over the Maroons, though this one was a 6-1 decision.
Having seen Aaron Alejo take a 6-1, 6-2 defeat to Clark, Liverpool earned the other singles points when Ben White took out Troy Wagner 6-2, 6-0 and Aiden Barbour handled Humphrey 6-0, 6-1.
To start the doubles sweep, Eli Barbour and Adam Ritter got past Colopelnic and Mock 6-0, 6-1, with Brayden Cabrey and Jon Kline handling Fitzgerald and Moore 6-2, 6-0.
Though giving up a few more games, Caleb Arnold and Shobhit Sharma won, 6-2, 6-3, over the Stechuchak brothers, with Owen Dunn and Matt Kane handling Carter Bashta and Trevor Hesse 6-0, 6-0.
Playing again on a warm Thursday afternoon, Liverpool faced Cortland and won again, topping the Purple Tigers 5-2.
To start a singles sweep, Alejo beat Dan Ruggiero 6-3, 6-4, while White got past Nick Djafari 6-1, 6-4, and those scores were reversed when Adam Ritter beat Daniel Zhang 6-4, 6-1.
Cabrey and Kline lost, 6-1, 6-3, to Grayson Jones and Trevor Jubran, with Dunn and Kane falling to Alex Musci and Henry Storch 7-5, 6-1. Turning that around, Aiden Barbour and Austin Huntress-Kennedy beat Josh Henry and Zach Stevens 6-4, 6-1, with Arnold and Sharma taking a 6-0, 6-3 win over Colter Gohs and Aaron Hughes.l
Like C-NS, Liverpool has matches this week against Syracuse and Baldwinsville, but then must challenge Fayetteville-Manlius on Friday
